The idea of a Personal Food Guide

To be honest, when we started thinking about the personal Food Guide, we would probably have to write nonstop for 3 days to cover all the restaurants we visited during 12 years in Barcelona.

Book Food Tour in Barcelona HERE

Of course, why is that?

In our personal opinion, Barcelona is the World capital of delicious food.

where to eat barcelona

However, as hospitality is still a huge business for Barcelona, many restaurants owners prefer quantity over quality to focus on tourism. This creates many restaurants, but not necessarily with good food.

In our personal food guide, we will talk about the best restaurants in Barcelona based on our personal experience and taste. Restaurants we visited more than once even if we could just go to the restaurant next door.

We divided the food guide into 2 parts as we realized that we want to share many restaurants with you so to avoid having a very long post.

Are you ready?

Traditional Spanish restaurants

We will start with so-called traditional restaurants. Those places where you find the true atmosphere of the city and the flavors of the grandmother’s cuisine.

  • La Cova Fumada: If you want quality fish at a good price and the famous bombas (mashed potato balls) of Barceloneta, this is the place for you.
  • La Bodega d’en Rafael: One of the classic wineries in El Barrio de Sant Antoni with a daily menu.
  • Bodega Gelida: Traditional winery with very affordable prices and tasty food.
  • Can Lluis: Restaurant with a long history that continues to make delicious food.
  • Restaurant Romesco: Restaurant that one moment it was considered as a restaurant with the cheapest menu in Barcelona.
  • Can Vilaro: It is very famous for its organ meat food (tripes, kidneys etc).

where to eat barcelona

Firstly, you should know that paella is a traditional dish from the Valencian community so if you want to eat the most traditional Paella, you will have to go to Valencia:)

However, there are few places in Barcelona where you can eat good quality paella.

  • Xiringuito Escribá: They offer delicious paellas at the Marbella beach, a variety of tapas and fried squid which is just amazing (We recommend to make a reservation as it is almost always full, price 30-60 EUR/pax).
  • Cherrif: Quality seafood and incredible paella (now it is under renovation) price is between 30-60 EUR/pax.
  • La Mar salada: They offer a good quality product with seafood cuisine 30-60 EUR/pax.

Most of the places where you are going to eat paella, the waiter doesn’t explain that you have to wait for a minimum of 25 minutes to make sure that the rice is properly cooked.

If they don’t inform you, and bring the paella in a few minutes, it is either pre-cooked paella or it is a paella product which you can find in any supermarket. So be patient and wait for a good quality paella.

Best Tapas Restaurants

There are so many Tapas restaurants in Barcelona. We are going to name only a few because we could just write the whole post about the best tapas restaurants in Barcelona.

  • Quimet & Quimet: It is a small place with great tapas and montaditos (mini sandwich), price between 10-30EUR/pax.
  • O’Retorno: Galician tapas with good quality and price (they have several restaurants in the Eixample area in Barcelona), price between 10-30EUR/pax.
  • Last Monkey: If you want to taste something different, we recommend this interesting Asian tapas restaurant with an optimal quality, price 10-30EUR/pax.
  • Sant Antoni Glorioso: a Definitely highly recommended restaurant where they serve exceptional bravas (fried potatoes with special sauce), price between 30-50 EUR/pax.
  • Bar Cañete: A quality bar in the Raval neighborhood, price 30-70 EUR/pax.

  • Tickets: This restaurant was always in the hands of Chef Albert Adria and the Iglesias brothers, they offer modern tapas of great quality. It is a Michelin star restaurant and on the list of 50 best restaurants in the world, price over 60 EUR/pax.

Barcelona, a city with a sea you can obviously think that eating fish or seafood will not be difficult. Of course, for good quality fish, you will have to pay a little more, but the food is delicious!

Marea Alta: Located on the top of Colom Tower with an incredible view and exceptional food quality, price over 60 EUR/pax.

Espai Kru: Located in Parallel, they really offer a very high-quality product, price over 60 EUR/pax.

Estimar and Pur Barcelona, are two restaurants that we have not yet had the pleasure of visiting but we can recommend them based on the expert’s opinion, they won’t disappoint you, price over 60 EUR/pax.

If you want to spend less or you are on a budget we can advise the following restaurants.

La Paradeta: They have several restaurants in the whole city. It is like at the fish market, you buy the fish and seafood and they cook it for you at the moment. They do not provide any table service, you just pick up the food when is ready. We recommend this restaurant if you want to eat seafood without spending a fortune, price between 30 -50 EUR/pax.

where to eat barcelonaMejores Restaurantes de Tapas
