Before visiting the state of Oaxaca in Mexico, you might wonder why someone would want to try the best burgers in Oaxaca, especially knowing how rich and flavorful the local cuisine is.
The truth is, there are several reasons. Even though it’s true that food in Oaxaca, generally Mexican food, is incredible, sometimes you just feel like eating something different that isn’t based on corn. For example, I met people who aren’t particularly into Mexican food, even though I personally don’t understand why you’d come to this country otherwise, haha.
Maybe you’re traveling with kids, and from time to time, you’d like to eat something more international that everyone can enjoy.
In my case, I noticed that the food scene in this city is expanding not only on a local level but internationally too. So between moles, tlayudas, and memelas, I decided to check out a few places offering the best burgers in Oaxaca.

We spent several weeks in this city, and I’ll probably write more articles about food in Oaxaca and local specialties. But let’s go back to the main topic.
If you’ve landed on this article, you are obviously curious about the best burgers in Oaxaca, so let’s get into my personal list.
OSCURO BREBAJE
One day, about a week into our stay, Mika and I decided to look for a place that served brunch or something similar. Luckily, Oscuro Brebaje was not far from our apartment.
Our first impression was very positive. The patio was full of locals enjoying their meals, which gave us a good feeling.
The menu is varied. Besides a great selection of healthy dishes and brunch options, there was a burger on the list, and I couldn’t resist ordering it.
I’ll be honest. I’m usually skeptical about ordering something I love, like a burger, at a place that offers a bit of everything. But I was pleasantly surprised.
The meat was juicy and well-seasoned, the sauce was perfectly balanced, and the homemade bun was soft like a sponge.
It ended up being my favorite brunch in the city. Great food, good atmosphere, and an excellent burger.
There are two locations with the same name, though I only visited one. Besides the burger, I also recommend trying their desserts. Since it’s a bakery and pastry shop, the sweets are outstanding.
THE JESUS BURGERS
I had my eye on it from the very first day we arrived because everyone’s reviews were really positive.
But it wasn’t until our last day that we finally went to try their burgers, and thank goodness ( Jesus 😉 )we did!
The place is simple but well-maintained. It’s not exactly in the city center of Oaxaca, just on the outskirts of what I considered the city center on the map. Because of this, it’s not very crowded with tourists, though it absolutely should be.
This was probably the best-priced gourmet burger I had in four months in Mexico.
It’s true that the portion wasn’t very big, but after finishing the burger and fries, I felt full and happy, which are two very important things.
Great flavors, quality meat, and tasty toppings. These guys know what they’re doing, and I can confirm it’s a well-executed burger.
It checks all three Bs: bueno, bonito, barato (good, nice, and affordable), which is exactly what every backpacker is constantly looking for while traveling.
If you’re in the southern part of the city and looking for a delicious bite, this is without a doubt one of the best burgers in Oaxaca.

BOULENC
Boulenc is the trendiest and most famous bakery in the entire city, known for making excellent bread that rivals some of the best bakeries in Europe.
And what if I told you that here, or more precisely, in their restaurant, you could also eat one of the best burgers in Oaxaca?
Yes, my friend, a surprising burger that rivals the best food trucks in the U.S. that specialize in this delight.
It goes without saying that the bun is exceptional. What surprised me most was the meat. The menu said it was made from rib eye, a cut not typically used for burgers, but it was incredibly flavorful and well-seasoned.
Instead of traditional fries, it came with chips on the side. Personally, I think the accompanying sauces could use some improvement.
Still, I’m here to talk about burgers, not potatoes, and I can confidently say the Boulenc burger earned its spot on my personal list of the best burgers in Oaxaca.

FINAL THOUGHTS
During my stay in this city, which lasted several weeks and allowed me to explore many of the state’s wonders and its rich gastronomy, saying that Oaxaca deserves a visit would be an understatement.
I must admit that I tried many burgers during my time there (yes, I’m a true foodie and burger addict), but these three stood out above the rest. The others, for one reason or another, just didn’t quite cut this ranking.
That said, Oaxaca is growing more and more as a tourist destination every year, and with that growth comes a broader range of international food options, including more spots serving delicious burgers.
