We are back with one of our incredible recipe for backpackers and this time we will show you how to prepare healthy guacamole recipe in a few minutes.
Guacamole is well known as one of the best recipes in Mexican gastronomy. We had a plan to visit Mexico and try this incredible recipe, however, due to coronavirus, we had to change our plans.

The good news is that Simone had a chance to work with Mexican Chefs in the past and they taught him how to prepare various Mexican dishes included quick guacamole recipe.
In addition to learning their gastronomy, Simone also caught some typical Mexican phrases like No Mames or Que Onda Wey which is quite funny when he used them when speaking Spanish.
In this post, we are going to share with you how to prepare healthy and quick guacamole recipe with the ingredients we managed to find nowadays in Prague.

Avocado facts – healty avocado recipe –

We are big fans of avocado and we use it very often in our salads and other food recipes. Avocado has a lot of great benefits to your health.
- Avocados are very high in Omega 3 fatty acids, the good and healthy kind of fat which is capable of reducing cholesterol levels.
- It has antioxidant benefits and it is widely used in diets because of its fibers which quickly gives you a sense of satisfaction in your stomach.
- Among other things, avocados have many vitamins and they are considered as powerful anti-inflammatory fruits
Now you know that avocado has many health benefits apart from being delicious, so you are ready to prepare this healthy and quick guacamole recipe which you can prepare anywhere in the world.
Recipe for 2 people healty avocado recipe –
INGREDIENTS
- 2 Avocados
- 1/2 Red Onion
- 1 Bunch of fresh coriander
- 1 Lemon (if you have lime, it’s better)
- 1 Fresh Chili (in this case we used dry chilli as we didn’t have fresh one)
- 1 Tomato
- Sunflower oil
- Salt and Pepper
Optional: Corn Tortillas (to make tortilla chips)

Preparation – Healty avocado recipe
Pico de Gallo
Cut the onion into 1/2 cm squares and set aside in a bowl.
Chop the tomato into the same size squares as the onion, add it to the bowl.
Prepare fresh leaves of coriander and add them to the bowl with the rest of the ingredients (reserve some part of the coriander).
Add salt and pepper, a splash of sunflower oil, lemon juice and chilli powder (add fresh chilli if you have).
Mix everything and reserve. Healthy guacamole recipe
Guacamole
Cut the avocado in half, remove the pulp with the help of a spoon, cut avocado into squares and put everything in a bowl.
Chop fresh coriander and if you have the fresh chilli, chop that as well.
Add salt, chilli, pepper, lemon juice and chopped coriander to the bowl
Mix everything and season as per your taste and set aside.
Tortilla chips (optional)
Turn on the oven and set it to 150 degrees.
On a tray suitable for the oven, put a baking paper (if you do not have it you can add a few drops of sunflower oil and spread it with kitchen paper).
Cut the corn tortillas into triangles and put them on the tray.
Season with salt and pepper and place them into the oven.
Remove it when you see the change to gold colour ( it will depend on the oven but generally around 7-10 min).
Remove it from the oven and let it cool. Healthy guacamole recipe
Prepare the guacamole and pico de gallo on a plate and eat everything with the homemade baked tortilla chips.

Tips for a perfect result – healty avocado recipe –
- Tortilla chips are the Mexican version of nachos which you can find in any shop in the world. They are usually made of corn tortillas triangles, the same one they use to make tacos.
- In their original version, they come fried in oil however we have preferred to show you this healthy and cheaper option which is perfect when you are on a backpacking trip. We know that it is difficult to find ovens in hostel kitchens (which are working properly) and that is why we mentioned tortilla chips but as an optional version. If there is no oven, you can always get nachos instead.
- Choosing the right avocado is not difficult if you follow these simple steps:
- One of the most used technique is to lightly press avocado and if it is not very firm or super soft it is basically ready to use.
- Another way is to look under the avocado peduncle, if it is light green or tending to white colour, it is still ripe. If you see brown or very dark green colour, avocado is already overripe.
- The perfect avocado will have a bright green or yellowish colour.
- The last tip is pretty easy, ask the person selling avocados. If you want ´ready to eat avocado´, for sure this person will recommend you the best avocado at this point.
- When you are going to season the guacamole, add all ingredients slowly and taste it frequently. Sometimes an excess of chilli or lemon will make your guacamole inedible.
- If you add too much lemon, we recommend adding a bit of sunflower oil, press it with a fork and mix it well to incorporate the oil with the rest of the ingredients.
- We recommend using lime instead of lemon, however, in some countries, it might be hard to get. Lime will make the taste different and it is the original ingredient which is used in Mexico.
